The 2014 April Fools Day Twinkie Run

Twinkie RunThe 5th Annual Twinkie Run is just a weeks away! Toe the line and choke down those Twinkies on Tuesday, April 1st at 6:15pm. Being on a Tuesday, it won’t mess up the weekend, either.

And this year, we plan to have post-race GRILLED TWINKIES! (plus the usual homemade Twinkie contest, prizes, etc.)

Also new this year – we are planning on long-sleeved shirts… Stay tuned!

The 2012 Twinkie Run

Our wacky 5K run was featured in Gourmet Magazine this year!  Of course, they like the home-made Twinkie contest at the end of the race.  We also made it on to Greatist.com for the Most Incredible Themed Races list.  Thanks for being active with Ann Arbor Active Against ALS and supporting the effort to increase awareness of Lou Gehrig’s Disease while raising funds for research toward a cure!  And thank you to our terrific sponsors!

April 1st 2011 – The Annual April Fools Twinkie Run!

The Twinkie Run was started in 2010 by Shawn Jyawook, of Jyco Sealing Technologies, Inc.  The race is in memory of his employee and friend, Jim Mong, who passed away from ALS in 2009.  Shawn and his wife wanted to do something to honor Jim’s memory. As Shawn explained, “I wanted a great way to have something continue that was humorous, like Jim Mong’s personality, and that linked into something that I enjoy- running.  The Twinkie part is just funny and a great way to remember someone with a smile and not with sadness – and that is the person Jim was, a man of great humor and great compassion.”

We are pleased to be turning this into an annual run!   The run was again held in Gallup Park with the start near the canoe livery. With (optional) Twinkie-eating at the start and again after mile 1.5, we had lots of laughs and great photo opportunities!
